CULTURE
Kapa Haka
Our kapa haka rōpu do a great job of representing our kura. We have termly pōwhiri to welcome new whānau to our school, and we perform at school assemblies and other special occasions/events within the community.
Each year we participate in the Kaipara Kapa Haka Festival. Kapa Haka practices are every Friday afternoon, and we average around 100 tamariki from Years 3-8 at each rehearsal.
Our Library
At Waimauku School we aim to encourage and develop a lifelong love of reading and our well resourced and up to date library provides the ideal opportunity. Each class has one timetabled session per week and the students are also welcome to come in and relax in a safe, warm and supervised environment before and after school and during lunchtimes.
From Year 3 the students are given regular training sessions on library research skills and the children are then given the opportunity to become student librarians from Year 4.

Students in Years 4 - 8 are able to see the Library Manager to request their borrower number. This gives them access to reserve, make lists, write book reviews and check which books they currently have issued to them.
Chess
We have a strong tradition of hosting and playing successfully in inter-school chess competitions. Students can play with others regularly by borrowing boards and come to lunch time sessions on Fridays. We have achieved fantastic results over the years, both at Auckland regional level and at the yearly national inter-school tournament.
